Vegan olive and garlic flatbread

In this blog post, I want to show you how to make vegan olive and garlic flatbread. When I was working on my hemp seed hummus recipe I suddenly realized that I didn’t have any bread to go with it. Instantly, I decided to whip up a bread recipe that would go well with it.

This flatbread will go great with the hummus, but also as a side with your soup or a stew. It is now one of my favorite recipes and I’ve made it a few time now, so I wanted to share it with you.

These flatbreads are so easy to prepare and then you bake them on a frying pan instead of in the oven which will give them a fun crispy texture.

2

In a bowl or glass mix together 150 ml warm water, 1 pack of yeast, 1 tsp fruit syrup and ½ tbsp oil. Allow sitting for 5-10 minutes while the yeast activates.

3

In a mixing bowl add 250g of flour and ¼ tsp salt and mix well together. When the yeast has formed a frothy hat on top of the water pour it into the mixing bowl and mix well together. You can use either a spoon or a stand mixer. Knead for about five minutes or until the dough is soft and easy to handle.

4

Brush the inside of a bowl with a little bit of oil and place the dough in it. Cover with a dishcloth and leave to rise for about 40 minutes.

5

After an hour, take the dough and place on a surface dusted with flour. Add the garlic and olives to the dough and mix well. Cut the dough into 8 pieces and roll out each piece to about 1 ½ cm thick flatbreads. Place on a baking tray and let the bread rise for 5-10 minutes.

Bake on pan on medium heat until the flatbread is cooked through. Brush with a little bit of oil after you've cooked each bread.
