Cajun Seasoning Mix

Spice things up a bit with this fun blend from down south. This homemade Cajun Seasoning recipe is the perfect blend of spicy, savory flavors that will take your dish up to another level.

Cajun Seasoning Mix

Making your own seasoning mix is so much easier than you think and chances are you already have everything you need in your spice pantry.  It can save you a bit of money, especially if you buy your spices in bulk. When creating your own mix you also have the opportunity to adjust the spice level to your own taste.

Cajun seasonings are typically a blend of specific chili powder along with garlic, onion, salt, oregano, and pepper. Also, there are tons of Cajun seasoning mix recipes out there but I’ve decided to keep mine fairly simple and cost-effective.

This seasoning mix has a bold spicy flavor (from the cayenne and paprika) with a subtle earthiness (from the garlic, onion, and herbs).

Storing your homemade seasoning mix

Once you make your homemade seasoning mix, it needs to be stored in an airtight container. It’s best to keep it in your pantry or your spice drawer to keep it away from light. It will keep for several months, depending on the freshness of the spices being used to make it.

How to use Cajun Seasoning?

Cajun Seasoning is often used for dishes such as Gumbo, Jambalaya, as a dry rub for tofu or vegetables. You can also use it to infuse dressings and dips or to make spicy croutons or “dirty rice”.
