Chana dal curry

Oh the smell of a Chana dal curry cooking on the stove, what a delight, hey? It’s a smell that can take you places you only dream of going.

When eating out I often choose restaurants that serve Indian food. All the different aromas in the air, the bread, and the spicy sauces, just yum! I’ve been trying my best to make good Indian inspired food. I want to use the word inspired because I am not Indian nor have I ever been to India. Not yet at least. Hopefully, I will be blessed to go there someday.

In the meantime, I will just dabble with my Indian inspired cooking. This lovely Chana dal will fill your senses with its rich aromas and booming flavor. It’s the perfect thing to make on a cold winter night when all you want is to get warm and cozy and snuggle up with a warm dinner.

There’s one thing I’m going to confess about this dish. I forgot to soak the chana dal before I made it so my lentils were a bit crunchy when we ate them. I kinda liked it, nevertheless, I think it might be better for your digestion to soak them before you cook them.

Vegan green pesto breadsticks

In this recipe, I will show you how to make light and fluffy vegan green pesto breadsticks that will be a total hit on your table. Using green pesto will give them a great kick and beautiful green vibrant color.

On the day I baked these, the house smelled so wonderful. The smell of freshly baked bread is just something else, isn’t it? When the kids came home from school they came straight to the kitchen and I knew instantly that my breadsticks were not gonna make it to dinner. However, that’s completely fine. I love it when I make something that my family likes so much they want to eat it straight away.

These breadsticks will go lovely with any pasta dish or as a side to soups, stews or pizza. They are easy to make and a total crowd pleaser. But, make sure to make enough because they will disappear quite quickly!

Vegan olive and garlic flatbread

In this blog post, I want to show you how to make vegan olive and garlic flatbread. When I was working on my hemp seed hummus recipe I suddenly realized that I didn’t have any bread to go with it. Instantly, I decided to whip up a bread recipe that would go well with it.

This flatbread will go great with the hummus, but also as a side with your soup or a stew. It is now one of my favorite recipes and I’ve made it a few time now, so I wanted to share it with you.

These flatbreads are so easy to prepare and then you bake them on a frying pan instead of in the oven which will give them a fun crispy texture.

I can not begin to explain how much I love hummus. It is without a doubt the best thing in the world. Hummus is always there for you

As a vegan sometimes there just aren’t any options available. However, hummus is always a friend. It will never let you down…. unless it has dairy in it! Why would anyone do that?

Hummus comes in all forms and flavors, I, however, am team plain. Yep, sorry to let you down. Nothing can compare to creamy plain old hummus. Preferably in the company of quality Italian olive oil and Dukkah. These things together, with crunchy baguette, yum! But how about adding some hemp seeds to the mix?

Hemp seeds to the rescue

Hemp seeds are probably one of the healthiest seeds you could ever put in your mouth. According to Medical News today They are packed with healthy fatty acids such as Omega-3 and Omega-6. Hemp also contains phytosterols, which help in reducing the amount of cholesterol in the body. Studies have also shown that eating hemp seeds may reduce your risk of heart disease and lower blood pressure.

Hemp seeds are also rich in:

Protein
Fat
Calcium
Iron
Magnesium
Potassium
Zinc
Folate
Vitamins C, B, A & E

Starting fresh

Hi!

I feel like I’m standing at the bottom of the mountain again. Sometimes this has felt like an unachievable task, starting from the ground again. But I’ve been here before when I started steina.is. This time, however, I feel like I’m equipped with more tools and helpful tips to get me started. I know I’m starting fresh, on a new domain. I have no DA yet, my website isn’t fully built but I’m so happy my heart could explode.

www.steina.is is gone! Well, at least somewhat resting for now. You can still type in the URL and it will land you here on a bite of kindness. So many people already know steina.is and it’s only fair that they can still reach me through that URL.

Beautiful new website

This feels a bit bittersweet, I had put a lot of work in creating a beautiful webpage, I truly loved what I had accomplished. But I felt like I couldn’t reach my full potential with that domain. After I switched to English I didn’t feel truly authentic with my Icelandic domain name. There was a connection missing. So I felt the only right thing to do was to rebrand.

I’ve had this vision for a while now, I wanted to find a way to be more relatable to my friends who don’t speak Icelandic. The old domain was according to some a bit hard to understand and also wasn’t related to my niche. This beautiful domain came to me one day when I was thinking about what I wanted to call my website. I wanted it to reflect kindness, the connection to food, of course, and be in English.

A bite of kindness

This was the perfect name for my blog so I hurried up and grabbed it and I am so happy with it. Now starts the fun part. Writing blogs again, building the website with fantastic recipes, educating and entertaining blog posts and pictures. I hope you’ll hop on the journey with me!

So here I am, still Steina, but with a new beautiful domain name that finally reflects what I want my webpage to stand for. Kindness and good bite 🙂
